The HEART Lab is a research group of graduate and undergraduate students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Ying Wu College of Computing, focused on human-centered and responsible technology design.
We investigate how to design, build, and evaluate technologies that are ethical, accessible, and socially responsible. We collaborate with systemically marginalized communities based on age, ability, or social and cultural identity to understand how technologies can meaningfully support their everyday lives, relationships, and futures.
Adopting human-centered, participatory, and community-engaged approaches, we study, design, and build tools that avoid reproducing harm and instead expand people’s agency, while fostering dignity, inclusion, and ethical engagement across diverse contexts.
